Game of Thrones season 8 premiere coming before July 2019
While at the TCA Summer Press Tour this past week, we learned via HBO head Casey Bloys that the plan for now is to launch the final season of the fantasy epic within the first half of 2019. Filming has already concluded for the show in and around Northern Ireland, but there is obviously so much more work to be done in between editing, scoring the show, and also putting together trailers and any other promotional material. This is one of the most closely-guarded series out there and we have a hard time thinking that this is going to change moving into the near future.
So when could we foresee the series premiering? At the earliest, maybe HBO chooses to launch it in March or April — the latter feels especially feasible, given that the network will likely launch a different show in January and that could give it plenty of time to air before Game of Thrones takes over its spot. We don’t exactly think that HBO wants to push out the remaining six Game of Thrones episodes in January, mostly because they want to maximize their viewership and they likely know that there’s a lot of other competition early on next year in between the awards shows and the NFL playoffs.
The thing that we’re mostly excited about right now is simply the knowledge that we’re not going to be waiting forever to see the show wrap up. On the other side of it, we also know that there is something else to be excited about in the form of a new spin-off, which HBO does seem to be rather giddy about at the moment.
