Me, Myself & I season 2: Why it isn’t happening at CBS?
After all, there is a reason why the final episode is airing Saturday night at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, which is hardly the best time in the world in order to air a show. This represents CBS just burning off the remaining episodes after the Bobby Moynihan comedy was pulled from their last year. The ratings were not good when the show was airing during its original timeslot in the fall — before it was pulled, it was drawing only a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic. While we do think that the ratings expectations for a comedy on CBS are not what they once were five or so years ago, this is still far below what the network wants. If you want to stick around on the air with them, you have to hope for a little bit better than this.
When the show did return recently to TV this summer, its ratings understandably plummeted given that there is such a smaller pool of potential viewers around now in order to check out the show. Over the past few episodes, we haven’t seen ratings above a 0.2 in the demo. Granted, we don’t think that the show’s future was going to change no matter what the ratings were; at this point, CBS is mostly airing the remaining episodes to be kind to the show’s original fans.
So what went wrong to land the series in this particular position? It’s rather difficult in order to pinpoint any one thing, but we do think that a big component to it is just that the show probably needed a different title, for starters, and a campaign that emphasized the premise a little bit more. It had a big star in Moynihan coming right off of an excellent career on Saturday Night Live, and we do think that this show had a lot of comedic potential. It probably just never had the time to really develop and, unfortunately, CBS doesn’t have a lot of patience for shows with lower ratings.
