The Conners: Jerry Seinfeld wants ABC to recast Roseanne’s role

Roseanne

There’s a rather interesting game of internet telephone going on right now when it comes to Jerry Seinfeld’s recent comments about the end of Roseanne — and also Roseanne Barr’s job status in general.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight recently while promoting the new season of his show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Seinfeld suggested that it was not altogether “necessary” for ABC to fire Roseanne after her racist tweet, stating the following:

“Why would you murder someone who’s committing suicide? But I never saw someone ruin their entire career with one button push. That was fresh.”

This is a weird statement from Seinfeld that’s rather hard to extrapolate, mostly because it doesn’t seem like he is defending Barr and we saw one of his fellow Seinfeld cast-mates pretty much do the same thing to their own career; yet, if ABC didn’t fire her, how else would she leave the job? Do you really think that Roseanne of all people is going to resign? She already said after her comments on twitter that she was “leaving Twitter” and that lasted an hour or two before she was back.

Seinfeld also shared a few thoughts on how ABC could recast the Roseanne Conner character, which is probably just as perplexing a thought as anything else that is said here:

“I think they should get another Roseanne … They brought Dan Conner back, he was dead and they brought him back. So, why can’t we get another Roseanne? There’s other funny women that could do that part. You need to get the comic in there. I hate to see a comic lose a job.”

In theory, we certainly agree with what Jerry is saying in that other female comics can use the platform — but don’t you think that this would cause even more problems to have someone out on stage pretending to be Roseanne Conner who is not actually Roseanne Barr ? This actually feels more like a legal nightmare than anything since Roseanne would absolutely not take this sort of situation well where someone else was in her role.

Do you think that there is any way in which ABC could actually recast this role in the future? Be sure to share right now in the attached comments!
