Poldark season 4 premiere ratings: The highs and lows

Poldark season 4 premiere ratings

When it comes to the official Poldark season 4 premiere ratings via BBC One, we do think that we’re looking here at a case of good and bad news.

The good news here is simply this: The first episode of the year for the Aidan Turner series (read our full review over at the link here), per Telly Mix, ended up generating in total 4.7 million viewers. That is still significantly more than many other competitors on the night, and beyond that a better performance than many other series across the board on the network.

However, on the flip side this is the lowest-rated premiere for Poldark to date, and shows probably more that viewers are waning to the idea of watching British television live. Just like in other parts of the world DVRs are starting to become more prevalent and with that in mind, there is a little less of a demand to check out live entertainment than there once was years ago. We haven’t really gotten much of an indication from anywhere that there is less demand for Poldark as a television series overall, so this is the only reasonable explanation we can come up with that makes some sense.

Overall, though, there is no clear reason to worry about the future of the series. Just remember here that a season 5 renewal is already official over on BBC One and that is likely to be the final chapter of the series — at least for the time being. It is certainly possible that at some point down the road, we will have opportunities to see a little bit more of the show … but we’re not banking on that. Instead, the best thing that we can do is enjoy the series that we have in front of us.

The next new episode of Poldark season 4 airs on the BBC Sunday night.
