Poldark season 4 spoilers: More about Monk Adderley
In speaking out per Digital Spy about the role in advance, here is what the man behind the role in Max Bennett had to say all about it:
“They’re described in the novel as wild men, so they’re kindred spirits in that sense … You can see them as two sides of the same coin. He’s the dark reflection of Poldark. I think they both recognise that in each other, and there’s sort of an innate animosity between them.”
What we do love about this role is that Adderley is someone Ross cannot prepare to take on via the same means that he has some other people in the past. It’s going to take a very different sort of style and preparation and we really just hope that he is prepared for what that is. It strikes us that he is not someone who will be afraid to play dirty and will do virtually whatever it takes in an attempt to overtake his rivals.
The arrival of this character does also give you a very different sort of villain within the Poldark world — just remember now that we’ve got already Warleggan and, to go along with him, someone else incredibly terrible in Ossie Whitworth — his mother is also coming up in season 4 and we will see how far the apple falls from the tree.
