Suits season 9: Is there still hope?
As of right now, we’re in a fairly interesting place entering season 8. Thanks to many of the cast members attending the Royal Wedding, you can argue that the Suits cast just got more publicity than they have in a rather long time. To go along with that, the series is just now launching a spin-off led by Gina Torres as Jessica Pearson. These are signs that suggest that we could be getting to see more of these characters for a rather long time still.
Yet, there are some other issues in here as well — namely the fact that there are very few USA shows that make it past season 8. Monk, Burn Notice, Psych, and Royal Pains all took a final bow during season 8 and there is reason to believe, with that in mind, that we could see something fairly similar happen here. The live ratings have been down the past few years. We’re also entering a very experimental period of the show in which we’re about to meet Katherine Heigl as Samantha Wheeler. Meanwhile, we don’t have Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle coming back to be a part of the cast. There is more risk in season 8 than any other before it.
If this reinvention works, there’s a reasonably good shot that it refreshes the show and we could easily get another season or two out of Suits before the end is hear. However, if it fails we could be looking at the end of what has been a really great franchise. Things right now are clearly up in the air but for now, one thing that we do know is this: There is no official evidence season 9 will be the end. Cling to that (for now) and we’ll let you know if something changes.
