The Originals season 5: Was that one of the best Klaroline conversations ever?

Klaroline

Mrs. Carter: Did The Originals season 5 just present the perfect microcosm of the Klaroline relationship as a whole?

There were many emotional moments at the heart of the new episode airing on The CW Wednesday night, and we know that many of them were absolutely devastating — take, for example, losing Hayley from the show so many episodes away from the finale. It’s going to take me a while to recover from that.

However, it doesn’t seem right to lose sight of the really wonderful moment for Klaus and Caroline in this episode, either. As Caroline encouraged Klaus to fight for his daughter Hope, the conversation the two had in the car together was one of the most poignant, emotional moments that we’ve seen on the series to date. They really addressed the status of their relationship in pretty frank terms, starting from where it began to where it is right now. It illustrated exactly both how much the two have changed and also some insecurities that were there in the process. Take, for example, Caroline’s concerns as to how Klaus was mostly intrigued by her because of her innocence, something that he lost a long time ago. He contended that this was not the only reason she caught his eye and he would have felt the same way about her regardless.

While this was no confirmation that Klaroline is endgame, it was a really wonderful scene written into this episode that gave us more of a sense as to precisely what makes this ‘ship so popular and also what they mean for each other. It showed the real journey of the characters and also why, when the dust settles, they may be right for each other in a way that they couldn’t fathom back when Klaus arrived on the scene. At that time, it was hard to see past his actions and tendency for super-violent behavior.
