Aidan Turner remains open to Poldark season 6 down the road

Poldark

Is it possible that we could get a Poldark season 6 still, despite some comments from series star Aidan Turner suggesting that season 5 could be the last? Let’s just say that we have now a little more hope than we once did … but it could be a while until you see it.

Ironically, the person responsible for giving us a little bit more of this said hope is Turner himself. Speaking per The Sun, the actor behind Ross Poldark made it clear that he is planning for the fifth season (already renewed and filming later this year) to be the end of the road for the time being:

“It’s been big for us all and it’ll always be a special thing but things naturally do come to an end and I think we’ve done really well with Winston [Graham]’s books and I hope he’d be really proud. But it’s nice when things naturally come to an end, you don’t want things to go on really long.

“I think next year might be the last one, certainly for a while.”

Turner has the cognizance to know that near the end of Graham’s book series, there is a fairly massive time jump that would require him to age himself up in order to play a suitable version of Ross. He makes it clear in the interview that he’s not altogether interested in donning gray hair or extra makeup for the role (basically, he doesn’t want to do what many of the cast members of This Is Us could for season 3) — instead, he’d rather just come back in a decade or so, if there’s still an interest in more at around that time. This makes some sense, and it could be a rather fun reunion. We figure that at that time, there could be a real thirst and nostalgia for Poldark as a series. We’d rather have that than another reboot, which we’re mostly half-joking about given how eager people are these days to remake things.

Poldark season 4 will premiere next month in the UK, whereas American viewers are going to have to wait a bit longer in order to see what lies ahead. This will be a political, action-packed, and hopefully romantic edition of the show that gives you a sense of how Ross is settling into a new world.

What’s coming?

We’re going to have more news soon about the story of Poldark itself, which is exciting given the fact that we’ve had to wait so long — the premiere is almost right around the corner!
