Code Black season 3, a hiatus, and the CBS series’ future
So what’s going on here? The simple answer is that Survivor is doing their annual two-hour finale and reunion show — with that in mind, there is just not any room in the schedule for something else. Longtime CBS viewers are probably reasonably familiar with this scheduling move, as it is something that happens twice a year every single season. Some Code Black viewers from past years may be familiar with this from when Survivor aired some of its three-hour finales during the holidays.
Overall, we would suggest not to view this as a sign that Code Black is coming to an end; rather, it’s just the natural order of doing things at the network.
For those who are curious, CBS is going to be making it up to you if you are a Code Black fan — as you can see over at the link here, there are two episodes airing starting at 9:00 p.m. Eastern next week, including one that may feel a little more personal to series star Rob Lowe. After all, at the center of that installment is a story about wildfires, and he has experienced some close scares due to them over the past year in his real life.
Beyond next week, we’re hopeful that the ratings will allow CBS to make a favorable decision. The numbers, all things considered, have been okay for Code Black so far this spring, but they are probably augmented slightly by the fact that the series is airing with a solid lead-in. Seeing how it fares without the assistance of a solid lineup perform it could show if it is a viable property or not in the summer. We’re not entirely optimistic, mostly because CBS doesn’t have ownership rights, but we’ve certainly learned in the past to never say never and there are always networks who will end up surprising you.
In general, there are still many more episodes of Code Black to come this season and once there is some more to report on some of those, we will have further information at CarterMatt to share.
