Call the Midwife season 8 filming officially underway
In a new post on the series’ official Twitter account, this news was confirmed in glorious fashion and we know that many of the series’ longtime cast members are already on set. Barring some sort of official cast announcement, we’ll choose to be coy on some of the specifics for the time being.
What ultimately matters above all else is this: The BBC series is currently gearing up for what should be yet another emotional season about change, transition, and properly grasping what is around you and holding it close. (Warning: Season 7 spoilers ahead!)
The arrival and departure of life is something that these characters have to be intimately familiar with at the moment. There are plenty of examples of the former around them almost every day — this is, after all, a major byproduct of this particular job. Meanwhile, there are also examples of the latter all around them with the recent death of Barbara, whose life was a beating heart for Nonnatus with her enthusiasm and passion for her job. Coping with that could be a key part of the story, but life also goes on and there are many more expecting mothers who are in need of love, care, and support. We imagine that they will remain the primary focus of the series, which is ultimately what you would want.
The best part about Call the Midwife season 8 filming at the moment is that there is no reason to feel overly nostalgic or reflective just yet. After all, it’s already been confirmed that there is a season 9 coming around the bend! This batch of episodes was confirmed recently by the BBC and we hope to see it in 2020, just as we hope to expect most of season 8 in 2019. (Hopefully, there will be a Christmas special a little bit earlier this year as a means to lead things off — we do always love that!)
