Should The Good Doctor season 2 remain at 18 episodes?
The focus of this article is fairly simple and it’s all about one simple subject: What’s the episode count going to be? What should it be? Obviously, the hope here is to get however many episodes we possibly can, without of course sacrificing quality. Season 1 was 18 episodes, and that proved to be a nice order without any of the stories getting stale. It gave the writers time to introduce many of the different characters, while also allowing for some exceptional case-of-the-week plots in the process.
The maximum that it seems we’re going to get for season 2 is, once again, 18, mostly because (per Deadline) that is the maximum number in Freddie Highmore’s contract. Given that the actor went into this show almost immediately after Bates Motel, we absolutely understand the need to have a little bit of time off.
Is it possible that ABC could actually reduce the order for the series? That seems unlikely, mostly because this show proved to be a ratings sensation. Why would you want less of a good thing? For now, expect 18 episodes of drama, heart, and hopefully good news for Dr. Glassman.

Hopefully, there will be more scoop when it comes to The Good Doctor in the months to come; we imagine that the next few months will be a little bit quieter, mostly due to the fact that filming hasn’t kicked off yet. That should happen this summer, which is when some more guest-casting news could also be announced.
