Timeless season 2 boss on big Jessica reveal

The biggest twist of Timeless season 2 so far debuted on Sunday night’s new episode in a rather surprising form: Wyatt’s seemingly-dead wife Jessica. As it turns out she is no longer gone, and the Time Team accidentally changed history to the point that she was still around. He got a text message from her, went to see her, and in this new timeline she seems healthy and as though nothing ever happened to her.

Now that we’ve said all of this, what happens next when it comes to Jessica? That’s a very good question given that “Hollywoodland” (read CarterMatt’s review here) also featured Lucy and Wyatt coming together romantically for the first time. They were actually ready to move on and be a couple before this surprise happened and effectively changed the entire world around them.

In speaking a little bit more about this twist and what could be coming on the other side of it to TVLine, show executive producer Eric Kripke passed along the following message:

Lucy has really complicated feelings about Jessica. She, obviously, has finally, after a lot of reflection, fallen for Wyatt. She and Wyatt have both decided to let go of the past, in a way, and their pain, and focus on a future together, and now all of a sudden comes this woman out of Wyatt’s past to really complicate things. There’s no way she can’t be hurt and confused. But by the same respect, she knows that this is the love of Wyatt’s life. And then she gets to know her, and really irritatingly realizes that she likes her and finds herself in an impossible position, because she doesn’t want to come between them. She genuinely likes Jessica and wants Wyatt to be happy. But she fell for the guy. So it really puts her in a difficult situation that I think she handles with a lot of maturity. But it’s not easy for her, either.

What Kripke describes here is one of the most interesting ways in which the series could handle the twist, given that it would give these characters an opportunity to develop their own relationship and it not just being a love triangle where Lucy and Jessica constantly fight over Wyatt. Lucy has her feelings, but also understands the history that is there between these two characters. That is something that is difficult for her to avoid facing head on.

Ultimately, though, what we wonder is this: If there was a way to change history accidentally through time, is it also possible that it could reverted back as well?
