13 Reasons Why season 2 not impacted by Jay Asher accusations
Recently Asher found himself expelled from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators in what is being described as a violation of its established harassment code. He’s responded in turn by denying the accuracy of the reports, but there were still many questions out there regarding whether or not the Netflix series was going to be impacted in any sort of substantial manner.
Based on what we’re hearing right now, the answer on that subject is “not so much.” It does not appear as though anyone behind the scenes with the show has anything to worry about when it comes to Asher’s connection to the 13 Reasons Why series. As a matter of fact, a spokesperson for Netflix had the following to pass along via Entertainment Weekly:
“Jay Asher was not involved in the second season of 13 Reasons Why. The upcoming season will not be impacted in any way.”
13 Reasons Why season 2 does not have a premiere date as of yet (the image above is for season 1), though our expectation is that it is going to be coming at some point in the spring or summer. The second season will progress the story beyond Asher’s book and onto some other issues for the remaining characters. They have a challenge in trying to work through the aftermath of what happened to all of them in the first season. We wish we could say that the series was going to become less dark or foreboding for them, but unfortunately there is just no evidence that this is going to be the case. This is a dark, gritty, and also realistic teen drama that looks at important issues in a way that doesn’t gloss over them.
