TV Lifespans: Is there a case for Poldark season 5 and season 6?
Yet, there is this tendency for many British dramas to give you a lot of great entertainment and then disappear at the peak of their popularity. That’s especially true with comedies like Fawlty Towers and The Office — they were fantastic and then ended before we knew it. Now, with Poldark we’re grateful to just have as much content as we do given that the BBC could’ve very easily opted to end this a year or two, even though there are still many books left in the series to adapt.
Signs do, rather unfortunately, point towards the series coming to a close at some point in the future. While Turner and others have mentioned that a season 5 renewal for the series is almost a sure thing, there have been many a suggestion bandied about that the fifth season could be the last. It’s a sad thing to think about, but we have to recognize that as a possibility.
Here’s where things get tricky, though — we do think that there’s enough story from the books, depending on how they are all divided up, to do another season of Poldark beyond season 5. Maybe you could do a shortened Poldark season 6 of around five or six episodes to wrap up the story, but there is enough to make it happen. The question there mostly seems to be whether or not the cast and crew want to keep going at that point. Doing this series is a long commitment with many long hours and work behind the scenes. We definitely understand why they would want to move on eventually.

Yet, we also cannot help being greedy. We recognize that we’re probably more than halfway through the series’ run, but still we don’t want to see it end.
