Call the Midwife season 7 episode 1 spoilers: Trixie and Christopher’s future
The BBC has released an official synopsis for the episode through their media site, and it’s one that is full of robust details including the arrival of new midwife Lucille Anderson, some new patients for the women of Nonnatus House, and eventually also some romantic drama when it comes to Trixie and Christopher. This is a show that continues to tow the line between idealism and realism; many characters have happiness in a way only others can dream of, whereas others are still struggling to see the sunlight.
Based on the Call the Midwife season 7 episode 1 synopsis below, the new season is going to pick up almost where the Christmas Special left off, with many of the many characters still struggling to endure one of the coldest winters on record:
The Big Freeze continues, with scheduled power cuts and more blizzards.
The departure of Barbara prompts Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) to recruit a new midwife, Lucille Anderson (Leonie Elliott).
Owing to the snow, Lucille is two days late and her start is bumpy when she falls ill. Lucille is called out from her sick bed to assist Trixie with a breech birth. Nadine Mulvaney (Tamla Kari), a single mother and exotic dancer in Soho, plans to give the baby up for adoption. But, Trixie is concerned that Nadine’s Rhesus Negative blood type might cause problems for baby.
Meanwhile, Nurse Crane (Linda Bassett) and Dr Turner (Stephen McGann) are caring for Ruth Gelin (Julie Legrand), an elderly Jewish woman suffering from bowel cancer. Ruth and her husband Arnold (Allan Corduner) are facing eviction from their home of several decades. The council have started to demolish their street as part of the slum clearance. Nurse Crane (Linda Bassett) must convince the prickly Sergeant Woolf (Trevor Cooper) to delay the demolition until after Ruth passes away.
Shelagh (Laura Main) wants to return to work and contemplates having an Au Pair. An apprehensive Trixie decides to take her relationship with Christopher (Jack Hawkins) to the next level while Sister Winifred (Victoria Yeates) is nervous as her driving test approaches.
From a production standpoint, we presume that one of the largest challenges for the cast and crew here had to be finding a way to continue to replicate the cold given that the show actually filmed during this past summer when temperatures were warmed. Still, there may have been a rather-fun spirit of make believe that came with putting some of these characters in this environment. We imagine that the season 7 premiere will have a fair share of sad moments, but there could also be some fun that also finds a way to seep through.
