What is Liz’s path ahead on The Blacklist season 5? Megan Boone explains
As a result of this, it feels pretty darn clear that you should not expect Liz to be smiling a whole lot in the second half of the season. This is a very different version of Liz than what we saw during the first half of the season, and for more on that Megan Boone teased up the following to Entertainment Weekly:
Yeah, we’re not gong to see a lot of Liz giggling. [Laughs] That was a lot of fun to play. It was nice to be in on the joke at the beginning of the season, because The Blacklist always serves up its thriller with a wink and a smile. I was glad to be tipping my hat to the audience a little bit. I don’t mind going on this new path now that I’ve gotten a little levity. The back half of season 5 will definitely explore how Liz is going to approach this phase of her life, and we’ll see her lean on these maybe genetically inherited darker impulses and behave a little bit like Red. But in that, we’ll also see her able to enjoy the darker underbelly of life a little bit more.
The thing with Reddington is that there is an undercurrent of lightness that does course through him every now and then, but he probably had to get through some serious demons before he made it to the point where he could smile. Maybe that will be the case for Liz here, as well. Eventually she’ll because so numb to some of the violence and rage that it produces a different reaction in the end.
