Call the Midwife 2017 Christmas Special: Where, when to watch in UK, USA

In just over 24 hours, the Call the Midwife 2017 Christmas Special will be here and, hopefully, it will pass along a significant dose of holiday cheer. It’s the most wonderful time of the year and this special should very well be a testament to what matters most: Love, care, family, and looking after each other. There are few shows that can put anywhere near as much of the real meaning of Christmas out there for all to see.

What’s great about the Call the Midwife 2017 Christmas Special is that in many different territories, you’re going to have an opportunity to watch it on Christmas Day itself. It’s actually somewhat rare to get a British Christmas Special airing that same day in America, other of course than Doctor Who. In Britain, you’ll have a chance to see this special Christmas Day on BBC One starting at 7:40 p.m. local time. The special runs this year for an hour and twenty minutes, so be sure to set aside a little bit more time than you’re used to doing for the standard Call the Midwife episode. You’ll be rather happy you did.

As for viewers in America, you are going to have a chance to see the episode Christmas Day on PBS starting at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. Adjust obviously for your local timezone and PBS station. The hope here in airing the special so late is obviously that viewers are tired out and done with some of the celebrations. While it’s a tradition for viewers in Great Britain in order to sit down and watch new programs at the end of Christmas, this is not something that is anywhere near heard of in the United States. This is traditionally a night in which most people turn off the TV other than to maybe watch a few old movies here and there. We know that, for us, two of our traditions growing up were watching A Muppet Christmas Carol coupled with A Christmas Story, which of course will be playing on loop this year both on TNT and TBS.
