The Bachelor spotlight: Meet Bri Amaranthus, Oregon sports reporter

Bri Amaranthus

Bri Amaranthus is one of the contestants taking part in Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s season of The Bachelor and she’s one of the more notable ones right out the gate. She already has a verified Twitter account!

What does make Bri a little different from your average contestant is that she’s already got a job in the public eye, seemingly covering a wide array of different Oregon sporting events. Sports reporter is a relatively new profession for this show and we feel like if production had their way, she’d totally get an intro package in the first episode. It’s easy to highlight much of what she does for a living.

So does this sort of job help you on The Bachelor? It’s almost a catch-22 when you really think about it. While one of the benefits is that you’ve got media training and you can probably get a leg up from a production standpoint, you are also probably are a little more conservative than some other contestants. If you do something completely ridiculous on the show — take, for example, engaging in petty name-calling — it’s going to come back to bit you in some way. We’re not saying that Bri would do that, but in general we’ve seen contestants on both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette deal with consequences of the show if they aren’t extremely self-aware.

Given that Arie is an IndyCar athlete there’s a little bit of common ground there; in her bio she’s very interested in reminding you constantly that she loves sports. She also likes Barack Obama enough to say that he’s one of the three people she would have lunch with if given an opportunity. We don’t know Arie’s political views but in this climate, you gotta worry if differences in political views could be a deal-breaker.

Is there compatibility here? – Possibly, at least in that Arie will probably like that Bri Amaranthus has a real job and may share some of his interests. Yet, we also worry that she’s going to be closed-off personally and talk about her job too much. It’s certainly an interesting career but it’s the sort of thing you could lean on for a little too long. We don’t see her winning or really coming close to it, but isn’t she an interesting enough person on paper to at least make it a couple of episodes?
