Arrow season 6 midseason finale: Another Cayden James surprise
Let’s start off with the latter given that for the bulk of the episode Cayden James and Black Siren hatching a plan in order to kidnap Quentin Lance and keep him hostage. Cayden wants to effectively wreck havoc all over the city and he believed that he had found himself a foolproof situation in order to do so.
Was that actually the case? Not so much, given that Oliver managed to figure out a way to escape James’ clutches, and Black Siren eventually showed enough humanity to let Quentin free. He appealed to enough of her memory of her father that she was willing to let her go.
In the end, that was the good news — but there was still plenty of bad news over the course of the episode.
On a personal level, we saw tonight Rene make a decision that ended up being a betrayal of Oliver’s trust — he was willing to sell him out as the Green Arrow, something that he did for the sake of getting another chance with her daughter. Oliver kicked him off the team for that, only to take him back later. When he defied his orders in the field he was ordered again to leave, though this time it seems to be a little more permanent. We do think he will be back in due time, and the same goes for Dinah Drake and then Curtis Holt. Trust was broken with the entire team, with the new team members learning that they were under surveillance serving as the final icing on the cake. Now, Oliver, Felicity, and Diggle are now once again alone — OTA is back, but not in the way you would have imagined.
Another surprise
It just so turns out that having the team turn on each other was a part of the plan, and that Cayden James is actually leading a WHOLE TEAM of villains of his own. He is working with Anatoly and Ricardo Diaz, meaning effectively that he’s far more formidable than anyone first thought.
