What awaits Liz Keen on The Blacklist season 5 after the coma
In speaking on the subject of the story and struggles ahead for Liz to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Jon Bokenkamp passed along the following message:
“We do lean into that … We will be telling stories around exactly that subject, like how does she heal? How does she emotionally heal? How does she want to confront Tom’s death? Can she confront it? So yes, there will be fallout from what has happened to her.”
Early evidence suggests that The Blacklist is going to be giving you a smaller, more intimate episode that is similar in some ways to “Cape May,” one of our personal favorite episodes in the entire series’ run. This could be the story of Liz trying to find her place again. The thing that makes this show so strong is that it doesn’t just gloss over key events in order to focus on the next story or case of the week — it makes it clear that all of them have a substantial impact one way or another, and a part of what makes this show so exciting is seeing just how characters face everything from grief to heartache to even some victories.
The Blacklist season 5 returns to NBC with new episodes on Wednesday, January 3 — at some point before the show goes off the air for Olympics, you’ll get a chance to learn more about where Liz is at in her life without Tom. It may be difficult, but we feel that she will press on.
