NCIS: New Orleans season 4 episode 8 review: Pride realizes his problem
Ever since what happened in the most-recent season finale with Mayor Hamilton it’s been pretty clear that Pride needs some sort of help, and that is why a therapist was sent in by the higher-ups in order to ensure that he was able to get some of his demons under control. He resisted it at first, but after what we saw from him during the case tonight we understand why he started to admit he has a problem that needed fixing.
The main case tonight began when Wade’s son Danny was in crisis — his girlfriend was kidnapped, and over the course of the hour things only got more intense from there as we eventually saw Danny himself in grave danger. Pride promised too much to Wade and due to his decisions in the field Danny found himself in an even tighter spot, which caused Loretta to toss some of the blame his way for what happened. These two have been friends a long time, but this was not the same version of Pride that she’s come to know over the years.
While this case was resolved, Pride does have some work to do when it comes to self-improvement; luckily, he does have the support of the rest of the team around him as he tries to make it happen. We don’t expect the reckless streak in him to go away, but he recognizes that he needs to be the type of hero that they can rely on rather than one who often finds himself exacerbating the problem — even if he does find a way to course-correct and make everything better by the end.
CarterMatt Verdict
NCIS: New Orleans season 4 episode 8 was a pretty emotional episode anchored by Scott Bakula and CCH Pounder, who really carried the weight of how important this case was. That makes sense, given that we are talking about her character’s son here! Over the course of the episode the two wrestled with their emotions before reminding us why they have a good relationship — they challenge each other, but can also forgive each other when the dust starts to settle.
All in all, the show has done a great job this season of presenting strong character stories and giving us a chance to get to know all everyone within this world a little bit better.

I love any episodes that give Scott Bakula and CCH Pounder screen time together – they really sell a friendship between two people who have been through a lot in their lives.
I liked that Pride finally realised that he can’t continue down the road he’s on, and I look forward to seeing him work through his issues (many of which I assume are to do with his father and his upbringing).

Scott Bakula’s Pride went on a rollercoaster ride of emotions in this episode and took the audience with him. He portrayed both fierce, almost over-the-edge intensity, from which you could literally see him yank himself back,
and a poignant introspective subtlety at the end. CCH Pounder gave an equally stellar performance – fiery in her protection of her son, but empathetic when DWayne needed her. These two are veritable gold together! Brilliant!
