Ink Master: Angels preview airs during Ink Master season 9 finale
Over the course of Ink Master: Angels, you’re going to have some guides along the way in the form of Ryan Ashley Malarkey, Gia Rose, Kelly Doty, and Nikki Simpson. If you watched season 8 of the show, you’re very familiar with the four ladies and their powerful alliance (and friendship!). For this show, they will also compete, but not in the way you would expect.
As per the preview that aired during the finale, every week will eventually lead to an artist competing against one of the four angels. If they win the showdown, they may get a shot at competing on Ink Master season 10 when that show airs in the new year. There will still be themed challenges and some other interesting stuff along the way — one challenge is apparently going to be about helping human canvases tell some of their own emotional stories through art.
This is a show that does lend itself to some experimentation, given that it’s a traveling series and one that doesn’t have to adhere to a specific format. There may be a comfort in that at times, but it’s nice here to see how the show works with its four hosts. They will have a chance to really shine in this environment and bring some of their own flavor. They’re not Chris Nunez, Oliver Peck, and Dave Navarro, and they are not trying to be. This is very much their own thing.
For Spike, the biggest win that comes out of this is that they get more Ink Master programming on the air for as long as possible. This helps them with their upcoming transition to the Paramount Network, and it’s both its own thing and a possible preview for Ink Master season 10 at the same time.

We talk about why they wanted to do the show, what they were looking for, and the overall experience of doing this as opposed to going through the rigors of the standard competition. We have a feeling that this is going to be a fun, interesting show that brings Ink Master fans in some new directions.
