Emmys 2017: In Memoriam features Adam West, Mary Tyler Moore, Carrie Fisher

In MemoriamWe don’t want to say that the In Memoriam segment at the Emmys, or any other awards show for that matter, are something that anyone looks forward to; yet, it’s also important. In a time in which so many of us have a tendency to constantly look towards the future, we often don’t take spend enough time honoring those who came before.

Unfortunately, this year we did so happen to lose even more notable people than usual, including the likes of Bill Paxton, Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, John Hurt, Adam West, Mary Tyler Moore, Alan Thicke, Florence Henderson, Don Rickles, Powers Boothe, and many more. The package was emotional and meaningful like like many others have been, but the sheer magnitude of some of the people who we lost is what is going to leave a huge impact on us for quite some time.

Were there some snubs across the board? Of course, but that’s anticipated when there are SO many legends who left us over the past year. What matters here more than anything else is the sentiment behind it, and the heart was absolutely in the right place.

What is probably getting a little bit more buzz at the moment when it comes to the Emmys and this segment is the inclusion of Roger Ailes, and the reaction to the inclusion in the room. Is it hard to dispute his impact on Fox News? Absolutely, but at the same time you have to remember the headlines and the accusations of the past several years. Meanwhile, there was someone who we love in Ron Glass who was not included, even though he really deserved to be for the work that he did on Firefly and many other shows. We cannot be all that upset over the Henry Dean Stanton omission from the show, largely because of the fact that the actor only recently passed and there may not have been time to include him in the segment.

In the end, we imagine that we are going to be seeing another In Memoriam segment later on in awards season, but there’s probably not going to be one related to TV as important as this one.
