Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 1 spoilers: More on Cassidy’s return
Below, (courtesy of NBC) you can see some of the first insight from the September 27 episode entitled “Gone Fishin’,” one that is very much about Fin doing everything that he can in order to capture a rapist. While he may be crossing international boarders to catch this fugitive, the endgame here is making sure that he actually captures his target. The synopsis below details a little bit more in terms of precisely what you can expect to see unfold:
“When Fin (Ice T) crosses international borders to catch a fugitive rapist, a political tug-of-war derails Barba’s (Raúl Esparza) legal case. Meanwhile, shocking allegations against Benson (Mariska Hargitay) lead to the return of an old friend. Also starring Kelli Giddish (Det. Amanda Rollins) and Peter Scanavino (Det. Sonny Carisi). Guest starring Dean Winters (Brian Cassidy), Peter Jacobson (Randy Dworkin), Will Chase (Byron Marks), Mariela Garriga (Elana Marks) and Amy Smart (Karla Wyatt).”
As you can see just from the list of guest stars, there are many notable names appearing in this episode — Dean Winters is the one that will raise the most eyebrows, given that Brian Cassidy has appeared in more than 25 episodes of the series and this is his first appearance on the show since 2014. Seeing how Cassidy works his way into this story should prove interesting, as the synopsis suggests that he will probably be the “old friend” who turns up in the midst of Benson having to deal with some allegations tossed her way. We consider this yet another reminder of the difficulties that do come with being in her position, given that as a police officer she is going to find herself frequently targeted, especially since she also happens to be a good police officer. The more people you are responsible for putting away, the more often that someone will eventually try to hunt you down and get revenge.
Aside from seeing Winters again, it will just be exciting to see Chase on the show because we did enjoy having him be a part of Nashville for so many years. We know that his character is going to be the rapist who is down in Cuba when Fin tries to extract him. While Barba is the sort of prosecutor who can put away almost any guilty party thrown his direction, the problem here is that it’s going to be a borderline international incident. Basically nabbing someone from another country does not qualify as coloring inside the legal lines. Good on Fin for tracking the guy down, but this is going to be trouble to put him away.
