Ballers season 3 episode 3 spoilers: Spencer and Las Vegas resistance
What may be a little more interesting in this episode, per the synopsis below, are some of the places that are going to specifically show a lack of interest in having that team around.
Ballers season 3 episode 3 synopsis – “Spencer (Dwayne Johnson) encounters resistance to his Vegas expansion initiative in LA and Oakland. Joe (Rob Corddry) takes a detour with Reggie (London Brown); Jason (Troy Garity) blasts Kisan (Kris Lofton) for his lack of transparency; Charles (Omar Benson Miller) bristles over Larry’s (Dulé Hill) failure to give him credit for a lineman he landed; Ricky (John David Washington) jumps to conclusions.”
Maybe you can argue that Los Angeles or Oakland is thinking about the ethical or gambling concerns that come with a team being in Vegas, but we don’t think that’s it. After all, Vegas is not too far from either city, and there could be concerns about these teams losing fans to a new franchise located there. That’s a big source of income since it does boost the market further. A good comparison may just be what happened when there was an NFL team put in Houston, and both the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints were probably concerned that they’d lose a little bit of revenue thanks to Texans fans. (Granted, it was only a matter of time that Houston was going to have to wait before getting a new NFL team — we’re talking one of the biggest cities in the country! We’re shocked that it took so long for Los Angeles.)
As for what else is coming in this episode…
We do wonder if eventually Charles is going to find himself a GM job that is separate from the Dolphins, especially given that he’s not being given much adulation there. Also, it would make some sense for the show logistically for him to be hired by the Rams or someone else, given that production is now in Los Angeles as opposed to Miami. (With that said, it is nice to have Dule Hill around given how busy he’s been over the past year in between this show, Doubt, Psych: The Movie, or his new arc on Suits.)
