50 Cent lashes out at Starz over Power season 4 decisions

50 Cent

Apparently, 50 Cent is none too pleased in regards to his own co-created series Powerand it’s not the first time that he’s felt this way. Late last year, he lashed out and threatened to leave over the lack of awards-show representation for his show, which is somewhat frustrating given that it is worthy — especially when it comes to its lead Omari Hardwick. This time around, he’s showing more frustration in regards to the network in Starz who airs it.

In a post on Instagram, the rapper/actor (whose real name is Curtis Jackson) claimed that he “woke up feeling a little different about POWER this morning. If the biggest show on your network doesn’t mean anything, what does your network mean STARZ? I’m taking my talents to south beach f–k this.” There’s some more context that is coming via Deadline, suggesting that this episode was originally intended to be a two-parter and would feature so much more when it comes to the Kanan – Ghost saga leading up to the big confrontation at the end. We originally heard from showrunner Courtney A. Kemp that she wanted Tommy’s story to be a self-contained episode; now, we’re hearing that Starz did not want to up the episode count for the latest season from ten. Maybe the original plan was to have a Tommy-only episode followed by this one largely about Kanan and Ghost.

This whole situation is a mess, but we do understand where some of Jackson’s frustrations come from. This past episode was a little more disjointed than it needed to be since it was trying to tell two very separate stories in a single hour, and on their own, each one of them probably would have been stronger.

Now, do we expect anything to change as a result of what Jackson is saying here? Far from it. For one, Power already has a season 5 order at Starz, so there are already plans in place for them to continue the story there. We would say that the network should be more malleable with their stories given that this is their top-rated show in live+same-day figures, but that’s from the outside looking in. We’re not a part of the network so we don’t know what their priorities are; we just know that we love Power, and we want to see the show come back and be stronger than ever. Having this sort of dissatisfaction behind closed doors is one thing since it can be resolved privately. As for doing it publicly, that is the sort of thing that could just end up fueling more of the fires across the board.

For some other Power coverage…

Hey, we understand that there are plenty of you who would rather focus at this point on some of the drama taking place on the show as opposed to some of the drama off of it. You can read our review for this past episode now over at the link here.
