MasterChef season 8 episode 6 exclusive: Gordon Ramsay’s lamb demo

Gordon Ramsay

If you love episodes of MasterChef that feature Gordon Ramsay in action, here’s a pro tip: You’re gonna want to watch tomorrow live! This episode will feature a challenge that is all about French trimming a rack of lamb, a delicate process that ensures that a lamb is presentable and of the highest quality. A lamb has to taste delicious, but it also has to look appealing in the process. If you’ve had a quality rack of lamb at a restaurant, you’ve got a good sense of what this is meant to look like.

In the exclusive sneak peek below from Wednesday’s new episode, you can see Gordon showcasing the right way to trim off the fat, the sinew, and everything else that ensures that the finished product looks similar to what you see in the video thumbnail. This is a difficult process, but once you perfect it, it does start to become easier.

If we’re to based this challenge on many others over the years, odds are that Ramsay expects the remaining home cooks to follow his instructions and then make a fantastic dish using this said rack. After all, butchering the protein properly is only a small part of the overall process. You then have to make sure that you cook and serve it properly, and lamb is not always the easiest thing to cook since you want it to be the right temperature and have the perfect flavor.

Above anything else, one of the best things about this preview is simply that you have a great opportunity here to see Gordon do some of what he does best in the kitchen. We’ve actually been super-fortunate this season in that we’ve seen that on a number of different occasions; as a matter of fact, just one week ago we got to see Gordon make his famous scrambled eggs, which you’d probably seen already if you watch him on YouTube with any regularity.

As for what else is coming in this episode…

Expect some more highs and lows for the various home cooks. If you remember from the preview from last week, Jennifer in particular is going to find herself on the blunt end of some harsh criticism from Gordon. It’s early enough, though, for her to turn things around — in general, we don’t think that any one contestant has separated themselves from the pack enough that they are unstoppable. Anything could still happen at the end of the day.

Help give back

Jeff Philbin is one of the contestants taking part in the season, and he’s coming up with some great ways to use the show and viewing parties to give back to the community. If you’re in the Tampa area tonight and you want to help a worthy cause of helping a little girl in need, it’s worth checking out the video via Jeff’s Twitter below.
