On this fine Independence Day, isn’t it right to share some more Suits season 7 spoilers about Mike Ross’ independence from his firm?

Recently, we shared some of the first details from the upcoming premiere episode “Skin in the Game,” an hour that is going to feature the story of characters trying to find their place once more. For Mike, he’ll be learning what it feels like to be an actual functioning part of Pearson Specter Litt for the first time. He’s not having to hide an element of his past anymore, and that could be liberating. Yet, there may also be a part of this process that is certainly scary, given that he is accustomed to having to hide a major part of who he is from everyone else. There are sometimes reliefs that put you at a loss, and he could be scrambling now to figure out what his place really is.

As a bonus, the photo above is from the premiere episode — in this instance, his place is on a comfy couch, while still wearing his shoes, no less.

This struggle could come in part back on the second episode of the season (airing on July 19) entitled “The Statue,” which may be why Mike is returning to the legal clinic to do some pro bono work — though that was always a part of his original plan. He gets to return to the firm he originally called home, but while continuing to do what he can to fulfill the original promise that he made when he was about to enter jail: He wants to use his legal powers for good, and help people who cannot help themselves.

Also in this episode, you’re going to see some other characters work to try to assess some of their own places within the world. For Harvey, he’s going to be fighting with some of his partners over a “bold move” that he wants to make. This is the thing about making Harvey managing partner — he’s someone who is going to take some big swings, and you have to just be prepared for that.

Meanwhile, this episode will also continue to see Donna looking to try to find her place both in the firm and in life. If you recall, this past season ended with her hopes for The Donna starting to disintegrate, and she realized that there has to be more to the world than what she has. Naturally, she wants to do what she can in order to properly find that. Maybe that means new ventures outside of work, or maybe that means something further in her personal life. It’s wrong to jump to some assumptions either way.
