Is Reign new tonight on The CW? A look at penultimate episode
Alas, there is no new episode airing on The CW in a matter of hours, and the good news is that this is the final hiatus of the season that we’re in — one brought on entirely because of the Memorial Day holiday. Unfortunately, this good news is very much tainted by some more / very unfortunate news that this is the final hiatus for the ENTIRE SERIES. Not to put a damper on your Memorial Day barbecue, but there are only a handful of episodes left to go.
Also, if this story is going to chronicle the entire journey of Mary, Queen of Scots, there’s a pretty good inclination where this is going. More on that later, but for the time being let’s keep on the illusion that nobody knows how the story ends while presenting some of the first details from the June 9 episode entitled “Blood in the Water” — the penultimate one in the series. In “Blood in the Water,” the episode is going to begin with Mary’s life in grave danger because of childbirth, the sort of thing that regrettably killed many women in that time. There were so many issues of health that were largely separated by class in the period, but this is a moment of joy and pain that impacts all. If you make it through, on the other side you get to celebrate the arrival of a new member to your family.
Unfortunately, here’s the bad news (with a spoiler warning, ironically, for real life) — Mary’s actual death is not altogether glamorous, but it’s not clear how much of Reign will focus on that. If the story is meant to be more about solely Mary’s time on the throne, then it is understandable that the show ends many years before that. After all, there are a good twenty years in history between the death of Lord Darnley and then the execution of Mary.
Elizabeth news – This episode is also going to feature this character become understandably enraged at the thought of someone within her inner circle being behind the death of someone close to her. This is a brutal world, so imagine the consequences.
