Game of Thrones season 7 trailer released by HBO
This trailer runs for almost two minutes, and it features easily the most footage from the new footage that any of us have seen so far. It may still be early, but there are a couple of awesome takeaways from it.
Cersei is not backing down – Given what just happened to King’s Landing with so many people dying — including Margaery Tyrell and King Tommen — you would think that the city would need a moment or two to breathe. That’s not happening. Instead, the woman at the head of House Lannister (and the Seven Kingdoms at present) is building an army and preparing to take down anyone standing in her way. That’s a good thing, given that the walls are going to close in on her. House Stark is in the North, and Daenerys and her army is coming from across the ocean.
More battles – This is easily one of the most violent trailers to date, which does make some sense given that there are so many different conflicts that need to be addressed. You get a brief glimpse of the dragons in here, which are larger than ever and capable of turning the tide in almost any battle.
A little romance – To be fair, though, this is romance in Game of Thrones terms. That’s a little different than real life.
Surprisingly, not much in the way of White Walker drama – Even though they were a huge part of the recent poster released by HBO, they aren’t all that much of the focus here. This may reaffirm our own longstanding theory that the first part of season 7 will be focused more on the human conflict before the characters let loose an epic oh s–t, realizing that they were focusing on the wrong thing all along and that the White Walkers could be coming to kill all of them.
Game of Thrones season 7 is premiering on HBO this July, and the biggest takeaway of all is probably just that this trailer is all sorts of awesome and we all should be rocking back and forth with anticipation for what’s next.
