Agents of SHIELD season 5 premiere date hopes; Coulson’s deal
Because of the presence of the upcoming Marvel’s Inhumans, the premiere of the Clark Gregg series will be pushed back a little further than usual. However, the show will be back, albeit in a very challenging new timeslot Friday nights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. Even if it maintains the ratings that it had from season 4, it would still underperform the show that was there previous in Shark Tank. Thankfully, this is a show that does not rely solely on this measure for success thanks to DVR ratings and streaming deals.
For now, circle late November as a possible premiere time, or maybe even early December. Time will tell if that sticks after Inhumans starts to come on the air.
Now, let’s turn the attention to the subject that should be addressed the most in the wake of this episode: Ghost Rider and Coulson making a deal that allowed the Spirit of Vengeance temporarily into Phil long enough for him to kill Aida. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Jed Whedon had the following to say on where that story could lead:
“We can safely say that having that thing inside of you is no small occurrence. It happened to Mack because Robbie was being pulled through dimensions, so it’s a pretty large price he paid to have the Ghost Rider inside. Robbie carries it around; it’s the biggest weight on his back. It’s not like he can just hop into Coulson with a thumbs up. Whatever the deal is, it’s fair to say that it’s serious. And you get that impression from Robbie when he says, ‘I don’t envy you.'”
For now, the biggest thing Coulson may need to worry about is being in space, but in some form or another, this is going to rear its head over the course of season 5. Given Phil’s luck, it’s probably going to turn up in the least convenient time possible and stir up a wide array of trouble for everyone on the show.
