Hawaii Five-0 season 8 premiere will only get crazier
In a post on Twitter at the end of last night’s episode, showrunner Peter M. Lenkov teased that the first episode will have “more” action (somehow) than everything that took place in the finale. Also, there’ll be “lots of great character stuff too.” Consider these two things the key to have Hawaii Five-0 viewer’s heart. One of the reasons why season 7 was arguably the show’s best year was that there was so much more substance behind all of the cases — the show found this incredible groove where you felt like these characters were your friends and you were getting to know more about their real-life struggles in addition to everything with the job.
As for how in the world Lenkov can know already what some of the season 8 premiere is going to contain, remember that a showrunner’s brain never really goes to bed. He’s almost certainly still pondering over much of this stuff in the weeks and months to following the end of production; the writers’ room then gets going and the planning process begins.
As reported last night, the Hawaii Five-0 season 8 premiere will likely come at some point in late September, provided that CBS does not throw any curveballs out there.
One other thing Lenkov address last night was the chatter that the show was potentially preparing to write out McGarrett after next season, and that the end of the show could be coming not long after that. It’s a little tricky to read too much into him saying “I wouldn’t be on that,” since you can argue that he’s referring to either a potential exit of Alex O’Loughlin or whether or not the show could end next season.
The one thing that is well-known at this point is that Hawaii Five-0 continues to be a ratings winner for CBS, and as a result of that, there is little reason to abandon it — after all, the show did just win the Friday night ratings battle!
