Agents of SHIELD season 4 episode 21: Aida’s final form; Robbie’s return
Agents of SHIELD season 4 episode 21 did an excellent job of setting up the endgame, and also reminding us of one thing: Aida means business.
After destroying the Framework last week, it seemed like Aida becoming human was not all that bad in comparison. Well, it just turns out that Aida isn’t exactly that human in her new form. What makes her character so interesting at this point is that she’s almost reminiscent of a video-game boss in the final level. The character starts off one way, and then after you beat them, they turn into something different and even more fearsome. By the end, you’re left arguably with what is the final form, something that is even more terrifying than anything.
After Fitz made it clear that he didn’t want to be with her (hey, this isn’t virtual reality anymore), this started to make Aida all the more unhinged. She had superpowers, but all of a sudden she also had feelings and wanted nothing more than to destroy the entire world. Basically, she’s probably the last person in the world you want to be upset since she doesn’t really understand emotional reactions.
The episode ended tonight with Aida letting loose some “frustrations” (that’s one way to put it), and it looks more and more like the Darkhold from the start of the season is going to become relevant once more as she tries to get the whole world in her hands. The good news is that SHIELD is looking like they’re going to have someone else on their side in order to ensure that they can stop her once and for all: Robbie! At the end of the episode we saw the dimension unlocked and Ghost Rider freed. He knows a thing or two about typical on the mystical, and now certainly feels like the right time to have him back.
Overall, Agents of SHIELD has really done a great job over the past few episodes reminding us why it’s one of the better superhero shows when it’s firing off on all cylinders. It’s got tremendous writing, great acting, and heroes and villains that are more complicated than you will find virtually anywhere else. Oh, and we also have Yo-Yo and Mack still off in another universe.
