Hap and Leonard season 2 finale: Is anything over?
On tonight’s episode, we saw seemingly that the Reverend was the one responsible for the annual killings, doing what he thought was just in his mind. He had convinced himself that these victims were on the way to the devil, and he was somehow offering them salvation. It was terrible, just as it was terrible seeing the brutal ending to his own life. The same goes for TJ, who didn’t understand the gravity of his actions.
With them gone (and with MeMaw unfortunately joining them), you could argue that tonight could have functioned as a season finale. Yet, there is something more that you will see next week. The finale episode “No More Mojo” will showcase some of the aftermath to the terrifying mystery of the season … and also suggestions that there is still more that needs to be done.
Hap and Leonard season 2 finale synopsis – “Hap and Leonard find the missing piece hidden in plain sight. The investigation comes full circle, and the guys seek revenge for past transgressions.”
In reading the final portion of that synopsis, one of the things that jumps out is the idea of Hap wanting to get vengeance against Judge Otis, the man responsible for altering the entire course of his life. Otis just won the election judging from the end of tonight’s episode, and that can’t sit all that well with Hap. We’ve already seen him showcase a bolder side in the wake of the latest investigation, and we figure that this is an attitude shift that will linger. In the midst of all of his devastation, you can certainly imagine a situation in which Hap doesn’t have all that much to lose.
As for whether or not a season 3 cliffhanger will be included in the finale, it’s hard to say … but we certainly do think that the end of season 2 was effective in setting up what is to come next.
