Quantico season 2 episode 16 promo: On the story, the change in strategy
Watch the promo below a few times over, and you’ll quickly realize that in terms of specific story events, it doesn’t reveal all that much. It also doesn’t talk all that much about traitors or various OMG twists. This preview actually seems more like something that CBS would be throwing out there for one of their shows — it’s a little generic, and it focuses more on the themes and the heroism of the main characters more so than anything specific to the episode.
This is a clear deliberate move on the network’s part, and the goal here is rather clear: To recruit potential new viewers, including some who may be watching Dancing with the Stars and are unsure if they want to leave the TV on. (Yes, we know that this promo technically aired for the first time after last night’s Quantico, but it will re-air on many other occasions.) If this was a show that was already established a lock to be coming back for more episodes, we’d hate this promo. As it is, though, we like that the network is going in this direction. It’s recognition that right now viewers want something hopeful, and they want a show that is easy to understand and dive into. If they can get some casual viewers watching the story, then they can start to get hooked and understand the finer intricacies better. They gotta get them in the door first, especially since Quantico is far from a lock for a season 3 renewal.
For those of you who are diehards and you’re looking for some story specifics, rest assured that we’ve got those for you, as well:
“When Clay is forced to use his fiancée to carry out an operation, the whole team reexamines their personal connections, or more accurately, the lack thereof. Meanwhile, Alex forges an unexpected bond with an asset at the center of a conspiracy, and Harry struggles to find his place on the task force.”
