Arrow season 5 spoilers: On Oliver, Felicity, and common ground
Nonetheless, Arrow season 5 is Felicity’s trip through the fire. This is where she starts to realize more and more that she’s getting in too deep, and when it comes to Helix, she’s siding with the wrong people. Much like Oliver has made choices and done bad things by keeping secrets, she’s in a position now where she starts to realize the same thing. We’ve long said that the biggest problem with the Olicity relationship was its empathy. Oliver often failed to put himself in Felicity’s shoes, while she also failed to understand what it was like to carry the burden of so everything that he’s went through. Havenrock was the beginning of her journey towards understanding this further; Helix is the end of it.
In speaking on this subject further to Entertainment Weekly, the following quote from executive producer Marc Guggenheim does a great job of accenting the situation:
“We’re starting to put her in Oliver’s footsteps a little bit … She’s going to get a chance to experience things a little bit more from Oliver’s perspective. I think the reason they broke up was her difficulty to see things from Oliver’s perspective. They broke up fundamentally because she didn’t trust Oliver, and the reason she didn’t trust Oliver is she couldn’t understand why he made the decisions he made.”
Does this mean that there is a reasonable chance at an Oliver / Felicity reunion down the line this season? It feels that way, but it has to be devised in a manner that makes more sense and can be sustainable. After all, the last one felt way too rushed, and it never felt like we had a window into it after we flashed forward past many months of the relationship between seasons 3 and 4.
Arrow has huge expectations in general following this past episode of the show. Rest assured that if you want to get some more news regarding what’s up ahead, you can do so by heading over to the link here right now. (Photo: The CW.)
