The Voice: Sammie Zonana’s blind audition lands her Gwen Stefani as coach
Her audition on the night was to the Ariana Grande hit “Dangerous Woman” can be viewed below, and we’d say that as a whole, we’ve got one specific reaction to it: Excitement! This is a really strong, powerful version of the track that has a sense of individuality to it. There’s some swanky jazz in here, and it doesn’t just feel like the pop ballad that it did in the original arrangement.
Whenever there is only one person who turns around, we do tend to wonder a number of different things, including whether or not the other coaches simply felt like they’d stand no chance and would just let the artist go with the perfect coach instead. There’s little denying in our head that Gwen Stefani is right for her. She’s got that same ability to bend genres a little bit, and they also have a quirky sense of style.
One of the things in general that we’ve been hoping to see over the past several seasons of the show featuring Gwen is for her to find a real act that she can get behind and support in the long haul — her white knight, so to speak. We’re not trying to disparage any of the acts that she’s had so far, but none of them have made a lasting impression so far. Sammie, who works as a wedding singer and has certainly paid her dues in the industry.
More Sammie Zonana music
We often like to give you a sense in some of these articles as to everything else some of the artists from the show are doing. If you look below, you can see a Zac Brown Band cover from her official YouTube channel. As we were saying, Sammie is the sort of artist who does have a tendency to wear a lot of different hates. We’ll have to see just how she does in the end when the Battle Rounds air in the coming weeks.
