Kit Harington on Game of Thrones season 7 cost, scale, and action sequences

Game of Thrones season 7 is going to be shorter in terms of run time than any before it, but it also may still turn out to be one of the biggest and most costly out of anything that HBO has ever done.

Given just how secretive the series tends to be, we’re in some ways surprised that we’ve got any commentary on it from Kit Harington, but we’re also rather grateful. After all, there aren’t any huge spoilers in anything that he had to say in a new interview with The Huffington Post:

“They spent an increasing amount of money on less episodes, so it’s gonna be much bigger in scale, the CGI … We’re trying new things, experimenting with new camera techniques. I think we’re trying to break boundaries and push past boundaries in these final two seasons.

“I think every actor did more action, had more action, had more scenes. They really focused it [on the main cast] because less [new] characters are coming in; they’re focusing in on the existing ones … And there are lots of people who cross paths. And that’s something I think the audience has been waiting for for a long time.” 

Obviously, the idea of Jon being able to interact with people like a Tyrion Lannister or a Daenerys is incredibly exciting as we move towards the end of the show, largely because you’d be getting some of the show’s biggest players all together. You’ve already got Jon and Sansa Stark working together, and after doing away with Walder Frey we have to think that Arya will start to move more in that direction, as well. At present, Daenerys, Tyrion, and their entire army are doing their part to head towards Westeros, with our presumption being that Dorne could be a landing spot for them given the work that Varys seems to be doing on the ground there in terms of forging an alliance.
