‘MacGyver’ episode 14 preview: Matty Webber gives Mac his orders

MacGyver -

At the tail end of this past episode of “MacGyver” on CBS, we were introduced to new series regular Meredith Eaton as Matty Webber, the new head of MacGyver’s team. Thornton betrayed them, and it was clear that a different voice was going to be needed moving forward.

Enter Webber, someone who is authoritarian to the point that she frightens Jack more so than any other person we’ve seen since the start of the series. She’s bossy, but she’s also incredibly effective — you don’t get where she has in life otherwise. After Thornton’s betrayal, they really need someone like Webber to make sure everything’s on the straight and narrow.

Going into the next new episode entitled “Fish Scaler” (it’s only one week away!), one of the things that we’ll be seeing is Angus learning a thing or two about his new boss; let’s just say that she is not someone who is receptive to his way of doing things. She wants to have a plan and have that plan be adhered to. Meanwhile, he’s more of the persuasion that if he needs to do something in the field to make something work, he’s going to improvise to make it happen. Like Matty, he’s effective, but in his own way.

As for which side is going to win out, that is the central struggle going into this episode — given that “MacGyver” is “MacGyver,” though, we have a feeling that she will soon realize it’s hard to keep him from his skill set. Not only that, but he functions best being able to pull something out of nothing.

So what is the mission of the week? Based on the information that is out there from CBS, we will see Mac and Jack do what they can to find and stop a corrupt FBI agent, one who is responsible for framing a man for murder. Given this person’s profession, you have to imagine that they may be a little bit better at evading their opposition than the standard criminal Mac battles on this show. They may be able to give him a run for his money.
