‘Quantico’ season 2, episode 9 synopsis: Will Owen get in the way of Alex, Ryan?
We know that the wait for new episodes of “Quantico” has been a fairly long one to date, but it’s about to be at an end. On Monday, January 23, the series is going to be returning in its new timeslot on ABC with “CLEOPATRA” — an episode that makes you wonder right away about whether or not the writer typed the title on caps-lock by mistake.
Beyond that, this is an episode that is going to follow up that proposal with reminders that Alex and Ryan are not exactly peachy-keen, and that in the future, she is going to get a chance to learn a little bit more about what is going on with some of the terrorists, who’ve been a central part of that story ever since the premiere:
“The recruits are schooled in the art of seduction, which Alex sees as a perfect opportunity to get closer to Owen, but will it threatens her relationship with Ryan? And in the future, Alex finally gets the answers she’s been looking for about who and what the terrorists are on.”
One of the interesting things that is coming out of jumping back and forth between the present in the future is seeing the different stages of where Alex is, and how we’re not all that confident that in the short-term, she and Ryan are probably not going to be okay. On the flip side, the downside is that with these two different timelines, we don’t get as many opportunities to develop either one of them anywhere near as much as we’d like. If the show comes back for a third season, the hope here is that the writers realize even more than they have interesting characters and are capable of telling a great story; continuing this twist forever undermines that. If you do want to continue to have two timelines, make one of them clearly the alpha story, similar to what we’ve seen on “Lost,” “Arrow,” or some other places around the internet.
