Before watching ‘Sherlock’ season 4, episode 2, have fun with a bloodhound (video)
There is a new episode of “Sherlock” airing tonight on BBC One (9:00 p.m. local time in the UK), and given everything that we’ve heard about this installment, it’s going to be a particularly dark one (as if it can get any darker after what happened to Mary in the premiere). Toby Jones is arriving as Culverton Smith, a sinister figure who may be one of the greatest villains on this show to date – outside of Moriarty of course.
Yet, the biggest villain of all this season may not be Culverton, and it may not even be the specter of Moriarty. It could end up being a bloodhound. The video below is particularly hilarious just in terms of getting a visual representation of something we’ve heard so much about in various interviews. The likes of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have said said multiple times over that filming with the dog was horrendous, mostly because this particular animal was a little gun-shy and didn’t actually want to do anything. He looks great in the image above, but that may be the full extent of his greatness based on everything that we’ve seen.
The best part of this video is the footage of Amanda Abbington trying to pull the dog as hard as possible down the street, and said dog having none of it. Think of this as a reminder that many people don’t work with animals for a reason. They are wonderful, but they do what they want when they feel like it.
If nothing else, consider this a happy way to say goodbye to Amanda and thank her for her contributions to playing Mary Watson. At the very least, we’re happy to see her go out smiling and struggling with a stubborn bloodhound rather than that last scene of her getting shot while saving Sherlock’s life.
For those wondering, our review for tonight’s episode will be online later at the link here, as will our preview for the third and finale (insert tears here) episode of the season, and possibly the show as a whole.
