How ‘Scandal’ season 6 will show passage of time before election
It’s already been widely reported that “Scandal” season 6 is going to pick up following the events of the Presidential Election, where we presumably are going to learn who won in a matter of minutes. It’s a huge jump forward in terms of time, and a somewhat surprising one given that this is a show that likes to focus on the meatiest drama possible.
So why jump past the election process? Our theory is that, regardless of who won, Shonda Rhimes and the writers realized that the process was going to be incredibly exhausting, so much so that by the time we got around to the end of it, the majority of people were going to just be ready to move on to the next phase in their lives.
We do at least know that there will be one episode coming up that is devoted to giving you more of a sense of what happened before the election. Per SpoilerTV, this will be the second installment of the upcoming season, and you will see precisely what role Olivia had in the results, one way or another. You’re also going to continue to see Fitz in action trying to solve some key problems; regardless of whatever happens to him in terms of his own political power, this is always going to be a guy who is ambitious and intent on trying to get things done.
This episode should be exciting, and while we’re on edge to see what happens, we are also equally intrigued simply to determine precisely what sort of pop-culture impact the show will have in 2017. Is there still going to be a thirst for Washington drama after so much of it in real life? Time will tell.
