‘Sherlock’ season 4 spoilers: First scoop on ‘The Final Problem,’ possible series finale
Before this season of “Sherlock” even began, there were many whispers out there that this could prove itself to be the darkest iteration of the series that we’ve seen to date. Based on everything that we’re getting at the moment in regards to the show, that is a very difficult claim to refute. (Warning: spoilers ahead.)
We are coming off now the death of one Mary Watson, which is itself one of the biggest watershed moments in the history of the series. This is something that will not only change John Watson, but also presumably the relationship with his longtime collaborator given that Mary gave her life in order to protect Sherlock. Will there be any resentment there, or will John try to bottle up his feelings? You do think that you know someone well, but when they are confronted with this sort of situation, you start to realize that so many more sides to a person can pop up.
Today, what we have for you are the first details for “The Final Problem,” the last episode of the season, and potentially the entire series as a whole. (We know that in Britain a season can be called a “series” — what we really mean here is that there may not be any more episodes after this one. That’s to be decided in the years ahead.) According to the BBC, we are to see “long-buried secrets” eventually catch up to our two heroes, leading to some of the most dangerous situations that they’ve ever encountered on the show. Eventually, this will lead to the biggest “challenge” that they’ve ever faced … which is really facing quite a bit.
It remains to be seen if Culverton Smith, the notorious villain who will be at the center of the next new episode, will be around for the finale, as well.
For now, let us know what you imagine will happen in the finale! Once there is further news to report on all things “Sherlock,” we will have it for you here. (Photo: BBC One.)
