‘Bones’ season 12 spoilers: Show exec teases Sully’s return

There are several actors  who are going to be making return appearances to “Bones” during its final season, whether it be Eric Millegan, Stephen Fry, or the incomparable Betty White. Part of the fun about getting such a final season is that it does allow for there to be some potential moments of celebration, and that includes getting to see familiar faces who’ve turned up in the past. Isn’t it nice to wax poetic a little bit before seeing a show you love go off into the sunset? We like to think so.

One other notable return for this final season is none other than Eddie McClintock, who will be reprising the role of Sully, a love interest that Brennan had early on in the series’ run. There was no denying that he loved her, but he was also a little bit impulsive about it, to say the least. How else do you describe someone who named their boat after her and then tried to get her to leave her world behind and join him on a cruise? All of this led to the relationship ending, but when Sully returns, there’s always a chance that the show takes her back to this particular point in her life.

In speaking about this story a little bit further in a new interview with TVLine, executive producer Michael Peterson had the following to say about the timing of McClintock’s return:

“He comes back at a time in Brennan’s life when she is emotionally unbalanced … She and Booth are going through a very difficult time, so it’s a strange time for this love from the past to show up. And it’s going to have some slight reverberations. I’ll be curious to see what the fans think.”

Of course it’s hard to imagine anything happening that splits Booth and Brennan back, but this could cause her at the very least to think back towards a little bit of a simpler time in her life. That could cause some distance between her and her husband, and is something that they certainly would have to work through.
