‘Vikings’ season 4 stays strong in ratings, despite airing over holiday break
One of the things that has long frustrated us in regards to television this time of the year is that by and large, it’s a barren wasteland. It’s become increasingly hard to find quality programming worth watching, mostly because networks choose to hold on to their shows until the new year rather than take the risk of running them over the course of the holidays.
However, so far during the break “Vikings” on History is proving to be more than capable of bucking this trend. This past episode of the series ended up scoring in total a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is an increase from the two episodes before, despite airing only a matter of days before Christmas. You can clearly say that this show lucked out a little bit when it comes to timing this year, mostly because of the sole fact that it was not scheduled on days that were directly around December 25; still, it’s impressive that it cam maintain something close to the season average of 0.7 at this time of the year.
The next test for the show will be seeing what happens in between Christmas and New Year’s, given that this is especially a dead week when it comes to television and many people are off traveling. Our hope is obviously that the show does very well, but that is mostly just bent out of our own desire to have Ragnar and company stake a big piece of the ratings piece. The reality remains that there is nothing significant to worry about. The show has already been renewed for an fifth season that will air at some point later on down the road in 2017.
Rest assured, we’ll be back to give you one more ratings update before the new year.
