‘Ballers’ season 3: Dwayne Johnson – HBO series shifts filming location to California
The first two seasons of “Ballers” captured the flair and the sensations of Miami life, but for the upcoming third season, the series will be shifting course — at least behind the scenes.
Following a change in tax incentives for filming within the state of Florida, a new report from Deadline notes that the upcoming third season of the series, starring Dwayne Johnson as former football player turned financial adviser Spencer Strasmore, will be filmed in Southern California due in part to receiving further tax incentives there. The series will employ hundreds of crew members across the region, and it may also be of added convenience to its star, who lives in the Los Angeles area when often not working on location for other projects.
The third season will premiere in the summer, and likely will pick up in the wake of Spencer’s admission to many NFL rookie prospects that he squandered much of his goodwill as a player and ruined the lives of those around him with bad business decisions. This admission came as a result of a negotiation with Eddie George, who in turn helped to ensure that he could work with young athletes through the Players’ Union. This was a delicate arrangement, but one necessary if Spencer wanted to remain in the cross-section of sports and finance.
Expectations are for the show still present the setting of Miami on-camera. Many other shows, most notably “Dexter” on Showtime, were able to use the City of Angels as a substitute for south Florida. They also can still obtain affordable location shots if need be in order to further create the illusion.
