Ratings: ‘Supergirl’ boosted by ‘crossover’ while ‘Conviction,’ ‘Jane the Virgin’ surge

Was it actually a (gasp) … good night for many primetime shows last night? Based on some of the recent evidence, it doesn’t certainly appear to be the case.

CBS – “The Odd Couple” was the only new program on the air last night, and it understandably scored only a 0.9 rating. We’re not entirely sure why the network wanted to leave this series out on an island, but we’ll roll with it for now.

ABC – The CMA Country Christmas Special delivered a decent 1.3 that is not too far off from recent episodes of “Dancing with the Stars,” while “Conviction” followed that up with a 1.0 rating, its best number in a long time. (To be fair, we do still think the show’s renewal odds are less than stellar.) This rating does make us wonder if airing against “Scorpion” in particular is hurting the show.

NBC – For “The Voice,” we saw it cling to a 2.0 rating, barely staying out of the bottom threshold of ratings. Meanwhile, “Timeless” continued to stay depressingly low at around a 1.1. We do think the show’s much better than the rating is showing, so hopefully that starts to turn around.

Fox – Mondays are becoming rather interesting here given that “Gotham” (1.1) is drawing lower numbers than “Lucifer” (1.2, a nice increase) despite airing earlier on the night. We wonder if they’ll eventually consider swapping them around.

The CW – “Supergirl” scored its highest rating since the CW move in a 1.1, but we feel like much of that was due to people thinking they were getting a full crossover only to briefly see Barry Allen and Cisco Ramon at the end of the hour. This episode did also help “Jane the Virgin” match its strongest preliminary rating of the season in a 0.5.
