‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings come back to Earth with Kristen Wiig – The xx show
For much of the past several weeks, we’ve seen “Saturday Night Live” deliver some of the biggest ratings in years off of the strength of the Presidential Election. Last week in particular, it was a chance to see both the aftermath of the Election and also Dave Chappelle as a host for the first time ever. That was basically akin to getting a massive dose of welcome nostalgia all in one sitting.
We assumed that the ratings would go down for the show hosted by Kristen Wiig this week, and it turned out that this was the case. However, at the same time these are still ratings that NBC can be happy with. The latest show ended up drawing a 2.2 rating in the demo, which is the sort of rating that is better than the majority of the episodes that aired last season. If the show gets this sort of rating the remainder of the season, we feel like everyone at Studio 8H will be thrilled.
The challenge for “SNL” moving forward now is going to be continuing to figure out a way to sustain much of the momentum that they’ve built. It’s interesting that the weakest show this season was the one hosted by Benedict Cumberbatch, and given our love for him, we would’ve told you going into the show that this would probably be one of the better outings.
You’ll be waiting now until December 3 to see the next new episode, which is hosted by Emma Stone with musical guest Shawn Mendes. As of right now, our expectation is that this episode is probably going to draw around a 2.0. Anything higher than that and executives should really consider it to be some sort of enormous win.
