Is ‘NCIS’ season 14, episode 7 new tonight on CBS? Ratings ramifications, much more
Tonight is election night, and with that in mind, of course the majority of major networks out there that are not going to be giving a whole lot of time or attention to anything other than what is going on with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Can you really blame them? This is an election that holds sweeping ramifications for the future of the country and then some.
As a result of that, of course there isn’t going to be anything in the way of new programming coming on tonight, and that includes our friends over at “NCIS,” who will be taking off for the second straight week after CBS pulled the show at the last second due to the World Series last week. Once again, we do consider this move to be perfectly understandable when you stop for a moment and consider some of the competition. Obviously, nobody wants to compete against the election!
One thing we are concerned about slightly with this two-week layoff is the ratings implication for a show that is already in the midst of a rather enormous cast transition following the exit of Michael Weatherly earlier this year. The show is averaging a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic this season, which is a decline of around 13% from the season 13 average. It’s fair to say that the cast turnover is already playing a part there, as is natural viewer fatigue. Remember that the show declined 9% last year, and that was with Weatherly as a part of the cast.
Bonus scoop – We don’t have too much more to share now, given that CBS hasn’t released any further info on upcoming episodes since we wrote last week. However, we can go ahead and tell you that “Enemy Combatant” is the title for the upcoming November 22 episode. Sound dangerous? Well, we’re a little concerned with what that could mean, especially since November is a time for key stories to unfold.
