‘The X Factor’ UK: Rylan Clark-Neal claims Halloween theme not fixed in advance
On this past episode of “The X Factor,” we learned that the next theme for the show on Saturday was going to be Fright Night. The easy reaction to this was that the themes were obviously determined in advance, given that this had never been in the rotation before, and it felt perfect for an episode of the show that was airing just two days before the start of Halloween.
However, “Xtra Factor” co-host Rylan Clark-Neal has now come back with a counter to many of the people and their conspiracy theories: This theme was definitely chosen at random. Speaking on “This Morning,” the co-host (who is also a former contestant) explained just how the wheel of themes work:
“I can confirm this. As much as I’m the first one to say, ‘ah, it’s a fiddle’ like other shows, it was not fixed whatsoever. The director was standing at the side of the stage. That jukebox is pretty much an empty shell with a genuine tombola wheel. When Dermot span it, we were all standing there – I had the executive producer of the show a metre away from me trying to blow it so it didn’t – ’cause obviously everyone is now up in arms, saying it was fix.”
Honestly, we wouldn’t have a huge problem if it was a fix, mostly because theme weeks are typically lame and don’t matter all that much in the first place. The biggest thing that is important is that the contestants figure out a way to bring some good stuff to the table and do something interesting with their songs. Sometimes, they do that, but other times they just feel like carbon copies of songs you can get on any other show.
